St. Francis Woods
Trail

Description

St. Francis Woods is a 27.9-acre preserve in Madison, Connecticut, managed by the Madison Land Conservation Trust. The 0.91-mile loop trail offers a diverse hiking experience through lowland mesic forests, alongside streams and floodplains, and over rocky ridges. While generally considered easy, the trail includes a steep climb and uneven terrain, making it best suited for hikers comfortable with moderate elevation changes.

Also, the entrance near the culdesac can be hard to find. When facing the culdesac from the road leading to it, the entrance is about 1/3 of the way around on the right, just passed the yard of the house on the right. It's a small dirt path and does't have a sign.

This trail has a nice combination of flat and more steep areas. While the majority of the trail is green, there are a couple more steep, narrow, and rugged areas that fall into the blue category. The walk on the road and to the cemetery are all green, but the blues are mixed into the southern loop.
