East River Preserve
Description
The East River Preserve is Guilford’s largest open space, encompassing over 583 acres of diverse landscapes. The trail network meanders through upland forests, successional grasslands, and inland wetlands, offering hikers a chance to experience a variety of ecosystems. Notably, the preserve includes a section of the New England National Scenic Trail (NET), providing scenic views of the East River and its surroundings. Trails are well-marked with blazes of different colors, guiding visitors through woodlands, across streams, and past glacial erratics. Wildlife sightings are common, making it a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

The trails range from easy to moderate, with some uneven terrain featuring roots and rocks, as well as gentle elevation changes. The trails feature some small bridges, and some areas that can get wet when the rivers and streams are high.
