East River
Preserve Fields
Description
The East River Preserve Fields offer a more open and expansive hiking experience compared to the wooded trails of the main preserve. These fields are characterized by wide-open spaces, providing unobstructed views of the sky and surrounding landscapes. The area is particularly popular for stargazing, observing lightning bugs in early summer, and enjoying the tranquility of nature. Trails here are less forested, making them ideal for those seeking a leisurely walk through grasslands and open habitats. The fields also serve as important ecosystems for various wildlife species, including migratory birds and pollinators.

The preserve features a range of trails from trails in the woods to a wide open field with tall grass and flat cleared paths. The wooded trails have some rocky and small inclines. The fields are a super nice beginner option as they're very flat and wide, except for one decent incline. The field also gets very icy in the winter.

This is a really nice route! It is a mix of a walk through the East River Preserve Fields which are nice wide open trails that are carved out of high grass, and a nice walk through the East River Preserve trails that is pretty easy without many inclines.
